Something about them Sakura. Just can’t seem to get enough of them, day in and day out. These five shots are all “street” shots, except for the picture of the art student painting, she graciously allowed me to take her photo.
My favorite is the B&W image for the volumes it speaks through the young women’s gaze (actually realized she was a friend of mine upon review of the picture! What a small world).
“Dreaming” – I took this shot as I was heading home. I had to get close with the 50mm lens attached, and some additional cropping made the moment more intimate.
I had had an idea of what kind of image I wanted, and shooting two frames I was able to get her looking up dreamily.
5D Mk II + EF 50mm f/1.4 – f/4, 1/50, ISO 100, -2/3 exp comp.
“Art” – It had been a wild day weather wise, but the sun finally came out and was giving me great light on the young woman.
She looked over and asked me, “Am I in your way?”, and I replied, “You’re my subject” π One artist to another.
5D Mk II + EF 16-35mm f/2.8 L II – f/11, 1/30, ISO 50, -2/3 exp comp. @16mm
“Treasure” – I spied this pair at the same time as another shooter. We both made eye contact and laughed.
This is the only shot I had where you could see the father’s face. You can almost feel the palpable connection between the two.
5D Mk II + EF 70-200mm f/2.8 L IS II – f/2.8, 1/400, ISO 100, -2/3 exp comp. @145mm
“On the way” – I sometimes like to let my mind wander aimlessly in hopes that something interesting will happen.
I usually see the world in color, but sometimes an image really screams out to be toned differently. This shot was on a cloudy day, and I really like the sepia tones.
5D Mk II + EF 16-35mm f/2.8 L II – f/11, 1/40, ISO 100, -2/3 exp comp. @35mm
“Text” – This was the first real shot I took with the 70-200mm f/2.8 L ver. II and was shocked at the level of micro contrast.
I think that this scene epitomizes a lot of the irony of college life these days – sitting outside on a beautiful day, phone in hand, reaching out through cyberspace of all places.
5D Mk II + EF 70-200mm f/2.8 L IS II – f/3.5, 1/250, ISO 100 @200mm
love the photos! The cherry blossoms are finally getting their act together this weekend… when I am confined to my apt from being ill. These pics will have to do until I’m allowed back in society π
Looking forward to seeing some pics π Get well soon~~~
… in which I will most likely be wearing a mask and looking like death. it will totally be worth it, though… still need to work on getting that second lens. haha!
Absolutely stunning shots Brian! I really love how each and every one of your photos tells a beautiful story. And the sharpness of each image is impeccable. Always a joy to look through π Have a nice day!
Thanks Jennifer π I’m moving more and more towards that “story-telling” style for all my pictures. I’ve also tried to start mixing “people” and “landscapes” together. Sometimes the results are mixed because I don’t feel myself firmly planted in either or, but I think these shots were really moments where I felt…right. Not sure what that means haha. Thanks always for reading π
Nice candids. I’m starting to get into street photography myself on my monthly visits to Kyoto. I really like.
